We Love Good Times and Taste Cheshire presents …
Chester Food & Drink Week is something I have thought about doing over the years, but had just never got round to. Maybe I just never had enough head-space to think it through properly, but lockdown has certainly given me the time and space to think about lots of things, including a celebratory week of special events and unique experiences in support of the city’s fabulous food and drink sector. But that’s not the only reason.
Sadly, our much-loved Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival was unable to go ahead this year for obvious reasons, and to say that it has been missed is an understatement. This would have been its 20th year, and it has left a gaping hole in Chester’s culinary calendar. The festival – held at our beautiful boutique racecourse – has become one of the most important events of the year, attracting 30,000 visitors to eat, drink and be entertained over Easter weekend by the UK’s top Celebrity Chefs. It fills hotel rooms and even allows food lovers from afar to camp in the city centre.
So this has been the main reason for creating Chester Food and Drink Week now, in late Summer 2020. Our fabulous foodie festival unites the city year after year through everyone’s love of great food and drink – as well as bringing together our entire industry for the annual food and drink awards ceremony the week after.
Personally, I look forward to Taste Cheshire’s festival every Easter more than any other celebration, and it just gets better with more new ideas and investment from Stephen and his team year after year.
But despite covid, we can still celebrate our fabulous Food & Drink sector this year with a week of foodie treats and surprises across the entire city – socially distanced of course, and at a time when it is needed the most.
We are currently creating a brand new food and drink trail around the city, a treasure map hand-drawn by amazing local artists Jade and Ollie from Living Vicariously Art. Our map will include the most diverse and dynamic venues, all offering a unique pop-in taste experience not available at any other time of the year. We will also be including our beautiful open and green oasis spaces around the city – where you can enjoy the perfect picnic with some time and space to breathe.
The city’s cycling and walking routes will also be included so you can plan your non-motor journey with a few of your favourite foodie pit-stops, and we will be celebrating our fabulous attractions so you and your family can make a day of it and get the most of out of your valuable leisure time.
We are also planning a number of super-special headline events – how do you fancy an Italian picnic sunset cruise on the river dee? or a champagne and oyster experience at a secret location? Tickets will be on sale very soon.
Chester Food and Drink Week will run from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th September – and everyone is welcome. Please check our socials for updates and our website will launch very soon.
This is a collaborative campaign between all agencies and stakeholders in the city. Please contact email@example.com if you would like to be involved.
A huge thank you to all of our fabulous sponsors and supporters so far of Chester Food and Drink Week.
We really cannot do this without you.
We will hopefully be adding to the list this week – and if you would like to become a supporter please contact me – everyone is welcome!
