Seeing our glorious city from a completely different perspective with Dee River Kayaking

Everyone needs to do this.

Kayaking. Down the River Dee, through The Groves and down the Salmon Leap rapids …

It was an absolutely stunning day, but it really doesn’t have to be. Kayaking is a sport for most weathers, twelve months of the year and save your safety equipment, all that really changes is your clothing. So yesterday it was shorts and tee-shirt weather – and we had an absolute Summer ball!

Dee River Kayaking is brand new to Chester. Owner and complete Kayaking nut Jamie is from London originally and has arrived in Chester via the adventure-scene in North Wales. He set up the business ready for the Spring season just as we were going into lockdown – so we all need to support this lovely chap (and our new bff) get himself established in our glorious city.

And what a fabulous new way to see Chester – it gives you a totally different perspective.

This was one of the very best Chester experiences I have ever had, and I know my good chum Katie Calland (of Popcorn fame) agrees. Katie has bought herself an inflatable kayak during lockdown and so she was one up on me in the experience-stakes (plus she’s much younger, fitter and adventure hungry) but we both thoroughly enjoyed our time on the water and we can’t wait to get back on it!

Jamie offers a number of courses. If (like me) you are a complete beginner then you won’t be for long. I found my river-legs pretty quickly and began to really enjoy it as soon as we got on the water. Jamie was telling us how well the River Dee is managed and life on the water is pretty civilised with everyone observing the river courtesy code – link here;

So if you fancy upgrading your river experience from an icecream and a peddle boat to a kayaking experience and potentially an awesome new outdoor hobby, then you have plenty of options with Dee River Kayaking.

Choose from the very gentle Chester Town Kayaking for individuals, two people or small groups from just £25 – or for the slightly more adventurous go for     the Chester White Water session, £45 per person for a whole 3 hours! The Chester Town River Tour (for 2 people) is great value at £32 per person for 2 hours.

There are plenty of other options, and as you become more confident – and more hooked – Jamie will take you to new and exciting places in and around North Wales where you can really let your hair down!

This was a first class Chester experience and the perfect thing to do at this moment in time. It is really good value, plus it’s the perfect socially distanced pursuit where you get to see our beautiful city from a totally different angle. Its super-safe and suitable for all the family. Personally, I also found it really beneficial to my own mental health. Enjoying the great outdoors is something most of us have vowed to do much more of – and this the perfect way to do exactly that. I have found myself spending sometimes ten hours screen time a day in my voluntary work supporting the city through the crisis, and although I find it all incredibly rewarding – to have had a two hour (plus) break of the best quality time in the sunshine was very special indeed.

I can’t recommend Dee River Kayaking highly enough. Do yourself a massive favour and get yourselves booked in. Not only will you love every minute of it, but you’ll also be helping a very deserving new local business get off the ground – and you’ll make a lovely new adventure-friend too.

Thanks so much Jamie. I’ll be booking in again with my family very soon.
