OK people! Our venues have done their bit, and believe it or not the government has done its bit! So now its time for us to do our bit.
I have felt it my purpose to support the Chester Food & Drink sector unreservedly throughout this crisis, as I truly believe it is the backbone of our local economy.
So please join me in getting out there on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during August to Eat Out to Help Out Chester!
Ahh the Suburbs .. what would we do without it?!? They kept us fed with the most delicious burgers, wings and other Thenga Things during lockdown and they kept us watered with great takeaway beer and cocktails – oh, and they served the best Sunday roast ever! They reopened their doors to huge cheers from an entire community, and now they’re inviting us in during August Mondays through Wednesdays with an epic 50% off food and soft drinks. Yes please!
You heard it here first! Hickory’s Chester will be taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme – and thats really good news for everyone, and especially me because I love their chicken wings and 3am Mac. Get yourselves booked in and make the whole family Hickory’s Happy!
My how we’ve all missed you Barlounge! The venue that feels more familiar than home is back at the beginning of August – and perfect timing for the Eat Out To Help Out scheme. Baby sausages here I come!
They reopened last weekend and there are so many of you who have raised a glass at The Yard already! Chef Patron Carl Noller is back open and doing what he does best – this is a great venue serving delicious Italian themed food (I know, I’ve already munched my way round the whole menu), and the new team are pretty fantastic too! And the good news is that you can now book your table under the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to support this fabulous favourite restaurant with a gorgeous fresh new look.
The Chester Fields Country Pub & Restaurant
They are certainly blessed with a great deal of space and not only is their beer garden one of the best in Cheshire, but the views are pretty special too. I am so pleased that The Chester Fields are taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Mark and his team have worked so hard getting this stunning venue ready for us all to enjoy once again, and this fabulous campaign will make it that bit easier for most of us.
Ring O Bells
There are dining pubs, and then there are dining pubs! The Ring O Bells is one of our favourites and they have won so many awards for their great fo0d. So please support them this August when you can enjoy 50% off Monday through Wednesday – this is such a good opportunity to try this fabulous venue for the first time or remind yourself how fab it is!
This fabulous independent dining pub in Hoole has won so many awards for their fabulous food and its no surprise. Owners Darren and Kelly Lea are super-passionate about delivering a superb customer experience and they have created a loyal following over the years. My advice is book in to Eat Out to Help Out and try their Thai red vegan curry with roasted cauliflower. It is heavenly.

This is one beautiful independent pub. And its had a gorgeous makeover during lockdown. The Pied Bull
This is another of my favourite Chester venues as it ticks so many boxes for me. Firstly, it is genuinely one of the oldest inn’s in the city with a fabulous history, and it has the most glorious bedrooms in Chester (you have to see them to believe them). There is a gorgeous garden which is perfect for those balmy Summer afternoons and last (and certainly not least) is their amazing menu. There really is something for everyone at The Pied Bull, if you haven’t already dined here then its time to give it a try – and don’t forget to ask for a bedroom tour! (and did I mention their micro brewery?!?).
Its seems like Piccolino Chester has been with us for ever – with the same amazing team that we know so well. If you’ve missed them as much as we have – then book in to Eat Out to Help Out and rediscover of our all-time favourite city centre restaurants.

If you live anywhere near Tattenhall, then you’ll know this pub very well. Its been there for I-don’t-know-how-long, and its great news that they’re open again and serving the beautiful village of Tattenhall. And if you haven’t been over that way for a while then you should visit during August and support them with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Its the perfect excuse.
Rowton Poplars became even more popular during lockdown, and we are pretty chuffed to have them well and truly back on Chester’s independent food & drink scene. They have a fabulous beer garden too which will be perfect for Al Fresco dining during August with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Perfect.
Who doesn’t love Chez Jules? From the best French Onion Soup on the planet to a great Sunday Roast to the most delicious desserts, fabulous cocktails and everything in between. So make sure you enjoy great food for less this August as they have now joined the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
They had only just reopened after their epic refurb when the ‘C’ word struck and they had to close again, but the Duttons team were back doing what they love earlier this week and I was so pleased to see Kyle and his fab team – who were clearly super-chuffed to be back. If you haven’t visited the all-new Duttons yet then now you have the perfect excuse as they too have signed up to Eat Out to Help Out.

The Boathouse has got it all. Beautiful riverside bedrooms, great pub food, marvellous real ales and a fabulous outside space including a floating barge. Set in a great location on the riverside, The Boathouse makes the perfect choice for a great big post-lockdown-catch-up with your chums over lunch or dinner. Don’t you just love messing about by the river?
The Rake & Pikel, Huntington
This Chester favourite has recently had a very nice refurb and is looking as fresh as a daisy. I’ve just had a mooch around their menu and I see they are champions of the Pub Classic – and seeing as I’m a sucker for good old fashioned scampi & chips, I’ll definitely be booking in to Eat Out to Help Out next month.
