The WLGT top 5 coffee shops in Chester

In the last five years, Chester has had a coffee revolution. More coffee shops have opened than maybe even we know, so we have decided to make your coffee shop conclusions when visiting the city a bit easier by listing our top five coffee shops.

Chalk Coffee

Watergate Street is fast becoming Coffee Quarter – and we absolutely love Chalk Coffee. The interior is super cool and there’s always a buzz from opening time to closing time. Sitting in the window seats and watching the world go by for just half an hour is enough to reboot the day – and their cakes are divine! They are dog friendly and have a small Al Fresco seating area for you to enjoy your food and drink in the spring sunshine.

The Flower Cup

A prettier café you never will find – and another great quality independent coffee shop on Watergate Street! The Flower Cup is a very special place, absolutely gorgeous, as owner Millie is also a super-talented florist. A totally unique, indie, botanical coffee shop within the walls of Chester. Brunch here is always great (check out their instagram page) and its dog friendly too. A real Chester gem.

Panna Coffee

Panna Coffee is the newest addition to Watergate Street and this lovely Scandinavian inspired space is always bustling with activity – their menu is full of healthy dishes and we especially like the Colombian eggs (trust us, they’re divine). They serve a full range of handcrafted coffee and their Coffee Vienna is a special treat. These guys are big on sustainability too.

Short + Stout

On the largely residential Ermine road, Short + Stout is another fantastic example of the burgeoning coffee scene in Chester. Just minutes away from the train station, the shop’s coffee is provided by Ancoats Coffee Co. who are based in Manchester.

An excellent customer experience, you are greeted at the door before being seated in the relatively small space. With food options through the day, Short + Stout excels in every aspect of the customer experience and ticks all of the boxes, so much so the coffee shop is rated as the fifth best coffee experience in Chester on TripAdvisor.

Jaunty Goat Coffee

Located on Bridge Street, Jaunty Goat Coffee has been a staple of Chester’s coffee scene for nearly four years now. Producing their coffee in-house, the Jaunty Goat also features guest roasts from across the world. On the city’s most iconic street, the shop runs slightly underground and has plenty of seating.

Rated as the second best coffee experience in Chester on TripAdvisor, surpassed by Bean & Cole, the Jaunty Goat’s success has resulted in the owners opening an vegan-only coffee shop on Northgate Street, proving how popular the brand are in the city.
