The Suburbs, Hoole Village

Everyone's favourite neighbourhood bar

Step out of the city and into the The Suburbs.

The Suburbs is located in super-cool Hoole village on Charles Street. From the outside of this bar & eaterie, you’ll instantly feel their vibe of edgy & contemporary cool, and immediately know you are stepping into something a little bit different.

The ‘burbs is owned by the King of Lockdown, Kingdom Thenga – who opened the doors in 2013, and ever since has been one of Chester’s best loved bars. There are so many reasons for this including their passion for what they do and the superb product they deliver – as well as their drive and ambition to keep giving Chester something unique.

Inside The Suburbs you instantly get a sense of that edginess – and are always met with the biggest welcome from their wonderful team. There is an intimate feel about the place, and you truly get a sense of being home away from home. Even in these challenging times, there is a relaxed, cool vibe.

The drinks here are taken super-seriously with a quality back bar full of unusual and premium spirits, liqueurs, beers and wines. And we love the fact that they don’t have a cocktail list –instead a cocktail journal to take you on a journey you haven’t been on before. If cocktails aren’t for you, then not to worry – they are one of the only places in Chester to offer a Stein or schooner too.

They love to celebrate Kingdom’s heritage, and one of the ways they do this is on their delicious menu. Kingdom LOVES to barbecue, order a Braai box for two; Flat iron steak, Hoptons Boerewors, chicken and fresh salad. It’s delicious! Also nibbles such as SA biltong, halloumi fries, corn ribs and Johannesburg wings. And let’s not forget the love for fresh oysters here too.

The roasts need a mention – every Sunday they serve the best. With additional sides, meat to die for and bottomless gravy …

The Suburbs counteracted our lock down upset with their super-tasty takeaway service full of comforting classics – wings, burgers and their epic Sunday Roasts. And the really good news is that they’ll be continuing takeaway indefinitely (and their new ‘locktails-to-go’ menu is pretty awesome too). So, if you’re not feeling ready to sit-in quite yet, then that’s fine. You can click and collect with their groovy new app and enjoy it all at home.

For the most hospitable hosts in town, with super cool drinks, gorgeous food and a fantastic setting, stepping in to The Suburbs is where it is at!
